George Nelson Mize, age 72, of Tucker, GA., passed from this life on January 22, 2025, after a valiant struggle with cancer.
George was born on April 30, 1952, to E. P. Mize and Sarah Marie Nelson Mize in Florala, AL. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy and held a Master of Business Administration. He was a fully committed, enthusiastic Georgia Bulldogs fan, cheering them on faithfully to the very end.
An active member of the Tucker First United Methodist Church, George lived his life in service to others. He enjoyed volunteering for numerous ministries such as communion visitation to shut-ins, Trinity House, Trinity Table, the cold weather shelter, men's fellowship, and summer food distribution to children in need. In short, if anything needed to be done at the church, you could count on George.
George served as a volunteer mentor and counselor at an Atlanta area prison as well as in his local community. He was friendly and always ready to offer encouragement to friends, family, or strangers who wanted to turn their life around; yet he could look them in the eye and have those hard conversations when needed. It was his honor to share his faith and tell others what the Lord had done for him. As part of the Recovery Community, he communicated with many individuals across North America and around the world to encourage them in the quest of choosing a better path in life.
His favorite verse was: "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
George was blessed to find his sweet wife, Kathy Butler French, while they were working together as pharmacists. Kathy & George were married June 10, 2017, making him a beloved part of Kathy's family. Family ties were very important to George; he was devoted to his parents, he loved his son and daughter, his brother, nephews, and cousins.
George was predeceased by his parents E. P. and Marie Mize. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Butler French, daughter Valerie Mize (Monique Pichon), son Jeremy Mize, brother Charles Mize (Laura), nephews Ben Mize (Lori), Aaron Mize (Emily), and Matt Mize (Carly). Additionally, he is survived by several beloved great nieces & nephews, and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Tucker First United Methodist Church. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service
In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the Tucker First United Methodist Church at the address below and designate for Shelter & Shower ministries. You may also go to the church website to give online at https://www.tuckerfirst.org/

Remember many times sharing with George. Seeing him at Tucker Methodist and other meetings always gave me a spiritual boost. George would always send birthday cards with some verse of scripture. I will miss George but know he is with God.

We'll miss you George. Grateful for the 25 years we shared on our journeys. And as our phone calls always included: "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference; Amen" Rest in peace.

George Mize was my friend, and more importantly he was God's friend. He was also "a friend of Bill" The first time I met George was when he introduced me to a new way of living. George took "one day at a time" and urged others to do the same. A greater friend I will never find. Thank you Lord for my friend George. He was a blessing to me and many others.
Thank you George

I remember seeing George & Kathy walking up & down Midvale Rd often & how close they were to each other. On one of my visits early in his treatment, I visited them & shared my experience about rescuing a bird that had hit my window & placed it in a cat kennel with food & water. I called them the following day to say it recovered & flew away as I opened the kennel! I believe that George's soul has now flown to heaven...God bless & love & much peace
