George Moranz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dierna Funeral Home - Rochester on Jan. 29, 2026.
George Moranz, age 91, of Pittsford, NY, passed away at his home on May 5, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He was a devoted family man, grateful to have his wife Agnes by his side as they raised their family together over 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.

He is survived by his children: Sandy Messick (Roger), Cindy Merrill, Jim Moranz, Patty Sheffer (Mike), and Ray Moranz (Lara); ten grandchildren: Michael Moranz (Gioia), Mackenzie Schaefer (Samantha), Sam Messick, Rachel, Emily and Robert Merrill, Matt Sheffer (Victoria), Kirsten Short (Tyler), Lenny and Andrew Moranz; one great grand-daughter Madison Short, sisters-in-laws Kitty Moranz, Thea Moranz; many nieces and nephews; as well as dear high school friends in Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Gertrude Moranz, his brothers Andrew and Norbert and sister Maryann.

George was born on May 30, 1933, in McKees Rocks, PA, and was raised in Ambridge, PA. An outstanding high school and college athlete, George went on to serve his country honorably in the US Army. He built a successful career as an engineer and builder, known for his dedication, hard work, and integrity. While he traveled extensively-often to visit family or at Agnes's request-George was most content at home, where he found peace and happiness in familiar surroundings. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the neighbors who regularly looked out for George, particularly Larry, Becki, and Javi, whose numerous acts of kindness will be remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday May 30th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kings Bend Park South Lodge, Pittsford.

Please bring your smile and share a story or two as we honor and remember a life well lived.
