Sheila Ryan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anthony Funeral & Cremation Chapels - Brighton/Rochester Chapel on Feb. 27, 2026.
It is with sadness yet gratitude for her life that the family announces the passing of our beloved matriarch, Sheila Hopkins Ryan, on February 19, 2026. Sheila was born in Syracuse, New York on August 2, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Paul Leo Hopkins and Margaret Delaney Hopkins. She graduated from The Convent School and Syracuse University ('49) where she was a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority. Sheila was predeceased by the love of her life, best friend and husband of 63 years, John Henry Ryan, her beloved son, John Henry Ryan, Jr., her brother Paul Leo Hopkins, Jr., and sister JoAnne Delaney Hopkins. She is survived by her children, Charles Francis Ryan II (Jennie) of Rochester and Susan Ryan Anthony of Raleigh, North Carolina. She is also survived by six adored grandchildren, Joseph Martin Ryan (Katie) of Rochester, James Iredell Anthony III (Lauren) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Julie Hopkins Ryan Magee (Justin) of Rochester, Sheila Ryan Anthony Marston (Bobby) of Atlanta, Georgia, John Henry Ryan II of Los Angeles, California, Susan Whitney Baggett (Powell) of Raleigh, North Carolina, four great grandsons and six great granddaughters, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Sheila considered her greatest achievement to be a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother who was deeply devoted to her Faith, Family and Friends. Sheila, or Lala, as her grandchildren named her, had a rare class and beauty. She always saw the positive in people and in life.

The family wants to thank the team at The Friendly Home (Lindsey Place) for their professional and compassionate care of Sheila.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis Church, 64 South Main Street Pittsford, N.Y.14534 on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 1:00.
