Ralph W. Emerson II

Ralph Waldo Emerson II, 78, of Tell City, IN, passed away on February 19th after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on June 17, 1947, in Bedford, Indiana, he resided in Tell City for most of his life. After graduating from Tell City High School, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam for 1969 and 1970 during the Tet offensive with the 11th Armored Calvary division, driving an M113 APC. He was later discharged with honors and was always respected for his bravery and commitment to his country.

Ralph was a man who lived life with an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. A passionate hunter and fisherman, he taught his children and grandchildren to respect the wildlife and cherish the quiet moments in the woods and on the water. His love for nature was matched only by his talent behind a camera lens, where he captured portraits as a local photographer and breathtaking landscapes throughout his adventures. Ralph would consider himself blessed to spend his last years near family being a proud Pop, sharing his time between Indiana and New York, and all with a beautiful lady by his side. As an avid outdoorsman, Ralph leaves behind a legacy of stories, photographs, lessons in patience and family and friends that loved him dearly.

He is survived by his partner and dear friend, Kathleen O'Shaughnessy; his children, Lantz (Andrea) Emerson, Erin (Ryan Fortwendel) Emerson and his cherished grandchildren, Eden and Elena Emerson, and Elliott and Rowen Fortwendel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph, Jr. and Helen Emerson.

A memorial service will be held at Anthony Funeral and Cremation Chapels (2305 Monroe Avenue) on Monday, February 23rd, 6pm. In addition, a celebration of his life will be held at the Spencer County YCC (1101 E CR 800 N, Chrisney, IN) on Sunday, March 1st from 1-5pm. For the celebration of life in Chrisney, you are welcome to wear his favorite color, as he always told Eden and Elena, camouflage.
