George Morrison Obituary

George Morrison of Waunakee, WI, passed suddenly early in the morning on Friday, September 5th, 2025, at the age of 72. George was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of his passing.

George was born December 4th, 1952, at Norton Air Force Base Hospital in San Bernardino, California to William and Glenna Morrison. The Morrisons were a military family and as such George spent much of his childhood moving from base to base (including time in Japan) until they ultimately settled in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. George was drafted into the Army at the age of 20 where he primarily worked in Washington D.C. Afterwards, he made use of the GI bill to pursue an associate degree in Electrical Engineering along with a bachelors in English from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. George translated these hard-earned skills into a lengthy career in technical writing, database administration, and other technology-based roles, ultimately retiring as a DBA for Pleasant Company in 2015.

George was a man of many passions: Listening to and playing music as a classically trained guitarist, reading and writing literature, playing volleyball at a competitive level, enjoying the wonders of nature, woodworking like his father before him, and taking classic muscle cars for test rides, just to name a few. After retirement, he was able to focus on his lifelong dream of writing a novel that would stand alongside the great authors he looked up to throughout his life. He was a founding member of his local author’s group, instrumental in the creation of a local author showcase, and to date self-published 7 books in total with many more in the works.

But all of this pales in comparison to what George cared about the most, his family. George met the love of his life, Bev, in 1979. After a quick courtship that began with a motorcycle ride, they were engaged within a year and subsequently married on August 30th, 1980. George and Bev were blessed with 45 years of love and memories, including three children that meant the world to George. The two loved to go on adventures together and were always chasing the next waterfall, regularly making plans to either go on adventures across the US or to their favorite spots up in Door County to spend time enjoying the simple beauty of nature together.

George is survived by his loving wife Beverly Morrison, his son Brian Morrison, his eldest daughter Heather Morrison, his youngest daughter Michelle Morrison, his son-in-law Taylor McElligott, his sister Glenna Wetmore, his brother Bill Morrison, his sister in-law Phyllis Jones-Morrison, his niece Julie (Tom) Koch, his nephew William Morrison and his niece Kelley Jones-Morrison. George is preceded in death by his father William J. Morrison, his mother Glenna Morrison, his father in-law Ray Dahmen, his mother in-law Julia Dahmen, and his stepfather in-law Joe Kopp.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church, 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. A reception will follow at Rex’s Innkeeper.

The Mass will be livestreamed at STJB.org for all those unable to attend.

Please share your memories of George by posting in his Guestbook.
