George Navas Obituary

In Loving Memory of George "Quique" Enrique Navas
On Sunday, October 13, 2024, George E. Navas passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and close friends.
Born on October 26, 1956, in Medellín, Colombia, to Carola and Hugo Navas, George's journey took him from the vibrant streets of Colombia to Staten Island, New York, where he and his family settled in 1968, starting a new chapter in the United States.
George was a man of many passions and one of the pioneers of the early internet era. After earning a degree in Computer Science from the College of Staten Island, he began his career at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey. His adventurous spirit soon led him to Silicon Valley, where he launched his own consulting business, working with tech giants like NASA, IBM, and Amdahl. Co-owning Bay Area.com, an internet service provider, was another example of his innovative mind, and he later sold the name to the San Jose Mercury News.
He was, above all else, a man who loved deeply and cared immensely for his family. After marrying Beverly Sauler-Navas, the love of his life, George moved to Murphys, California, to give his family the joys of country living. Every weekend, George relished in the beauty of Murphys, balancing the serenity of the outdoors with the hustle and bustle of his work at Visa, where he eventually became Director of Mergers and Acquisitions.
George embraced life with an infectious spirit that touched everyone who knew him. His world was filled with dancing-he was part owner of Alberto's, a salsa club in San Jose. He loved nothing more than being outside, whether camping, fishing, or simply soaking in the sun and waves. Playing soccer and cheering on Texas A&M Aggie football were his other hobbies. His joy in life extended to his home, where he was known as "Mr. Fix-it", always remodeling and fixing his RV's.
Even in retirement, George dreamed big, imagining a peaceful life by the beach where he could fish and relax. While that dream was cut short, the way he lived each day-with joy, love, and adventure-will continue to inspire those who knew him.
George is survived by his loving mother, Carola; his siblings, Carlos, Luis, Mario, Alberto, Nora, and Claudia; his sisters-in-law Mary and Susan; his brothers-in-law Mark and Joseph; Beverly; and thirteen nieces and nephews who adored him. Most importantly, he leaves behind his children, Brianna and Marcus, his greatest sources of pride and joy. Everything George did was for them.
"Love me 'til my heart stops"-Mission Accomplished!
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in George's name are welcome.
