George Donald Newell, son of Roy Stanley Newell and Myrtle Irene (Warren) Newell was born May 23, 1930 in old Linn Creek, Missouri. George graduated from the eighth grade at the Elm Grove Grade School, near
Richland, MO.
He married Ida Margaret Luttrell, the love of his life, the girl who lived next door, on January 4, 1950 in
Waynesville, Missouri. They were married over sixty-nine years before Ida's passing on September 21, 2019. George and Ida were blessed with five children and shared many happy days together on their farm while raising their family.
George accepted Christ and joined Dublin Baptist Church in August of 1955 and was baptized in the Gasconade River. They later moved to Elm Grove Baptist Church where he & Ida were members for forty years and George served as a Sunday School Superintendent. They later moved on to First Baptist Church before becoming greatly loved members of Grace Baptist Church in Richland where he attended as long as his health allowed.
He had a variety of jobs during his life, working in construction, State Highway Department, farming, raising cattle before retiring from the City of Richland. He greatly enjoyed the good old days of square dancing, being a member of Richland's saddle club, horseback riding, or dropping a line in his favorite fishing hole. George loved reading his Bible and attending church as long as his health permitted.
George lived a good long life. With his family by his side, he peacefully left the cares and worries of this world behind on the evening of Saturday, May 31, 2025, during a brief stay in Richland's Care Center, having attained the age of ninety-five. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Stanley Newell and Myrtle Irene (Warren) Newell; George's father and mother in-law, Joel and Ruby Luttrell; his precious wife, Ida, three sons, Stanley Joe Newell (1954), Jimmy Lyn Newell (1957), and Richard Lee Newell (2022); two sisters, Anna "Irene" Shelton (2022), and Pauline Mitschele (2012); brothers-in-law, Junior Luttrell (2000), "J.T." Tommy Mitschele (1971), and Ola Shelton (1991), James Herbert "Bodie" Boren (2023); one sister-in-law, Maxine Luttrell (2018).
George is survived by his children: Susan Kay Doyle (Todd), and Donald Ray Newell (Laura) all of Crocker, MO; daughter-in-law, Tammy Newell of
Richland, MO; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Vivian "Sue" Boren of Crocker, MO, and Carol Collison (Mike) of Barnett, MO; one brother-in-law, Sam Luttrell of
Richland, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
George's greatest love was being with family and playing with his great grandkids. He will forever be remembered for the love and devotion to God, being hardworking, kind hearted, and honest. A man who deeply loved family, farming, and visiting with friends, and neighbors. Gone but never forgotten.
A graveside service were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025 at the Mount View Cemetery with Pastors Mark Tallant and Doug Jacobson officiating. Dawn Swanson and Wyatt Newell sang "Amazing Grace." Serving as escorts were James Newell, Jeremy Newell, Wyatt Newell, Keith Newell, TJ Doyle, and Richard Lewis Luttrell.
Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of George Donald Newell to either the Richland Care Center or Lake Regional Hospice and may be left at the Memorial Chapel of Richland.
