George “Hunkie” Wade Oldham, 85, of Bear Creek, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at his home. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Antioch Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Garner presiding. Burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00-1:45 p.m. They will return to the fellowship hall following the committal and will receive friends at that time.

 George was born in Chatham County on May 12, 1939 to Carl and Bertha Hancock Oldham. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities. He also served in the National Guard. He was a truck driver for over 40 years. George loved to fish and travel with his wife and their best friends, Vernon and Sue Davis. He enjoyed many trips with the elders of the community and the Senior Saints group. 

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Chavis; four brothers and three sisters.

George is survived by his children, Lesa Chavis, of Bear Creek, Crystal Oldham, of Bear Creek, Jeffrey Oldham, of Bear Creek and Todd Oldham (Mandy), of Siler City; sister, Linda Eastwood (Johnnie), of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Alton Wayne Oldham (Jeanette), of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Alyssa Hall (Christian) and Savanna Oldham; great-grandchildren, Leigha Paige and Lillian Grae and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to send a special thanks to his caregivers, Catherine Solosky, Ellen Rimmer and Sheila Tillman. The family would also like to thank Liberty Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Antioch Baptist Church cemetery fund, 3835 Bonlee-Carbonton Rd., Goldston, NC 27252.
