George Richard Plowfield, 86, of Reinholds (formerly Lititz) passed peacefully at home on February 9, 2026. He was the oldest son of George E. and Kathryn E. Ruoss Plowfield of Leola and brother of William Plowfield (Ohio) and Linda Sheppard (Lancaster, PA).
On August 7, 1960, George married Doris Dianne Dise. They raised three daughters, Deborah Burkholder (Denver; husband Kurt), Lisa Plowfield (York; husband John) and Sara Jane “Sally” Musser (Newmanstown; husband John). He was “Pop-Pop” to six grandchildren (Kevin, Amy, Ethan, George, Emma and Alex) and ten great-grandchildren. He worked in management positions at Hess Brothers, Weaver’s and Lancaster Newspapers distributing the Lancaster Farming News.
He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Landisburg, PA. George loved camping, wood working and touring the country on his motorcycle with his wife. They took five trips west across the states. A man of few words, he loved the outdoors, cutting wood, crafting, making wooden toys and marble rollers all in partnership with his wife. His favorite times were spent with family gatherings especially at their cabin in Perry County and working in his home wood shop.
Celebration of life and memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, please plant a tree in memory of George.
