George L. Purvis, age 75, of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025.
George was born on October 9, 1949 in Dexter, MS. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School, class of 1968. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, welder and fitter for over 20 years. George was a member of the MS Division Sons of Revolution and Shieldsboro Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was an avid fisherman and had a love for hotrods.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Elaine Purvis; mother, Sarah Lois Wright; and brother, James Wright.
Survivors include his daughters, Sheree Purvis and Shanna “Shae” Purvis; grandchildren, Gelana Corbin, Ashlyn Mesa, Gage Purvis, and Gaven Groce; great-grandchildren, Anderson and Jayna Corbin and Blakelynn, Payton, Montgomery and Magnolia Mesa.
A funeral service will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. Friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery. A reception will be held for George and his brother, James Wright, at Annettes Tavern, 1214 East Railroad Street, Gulfport, after the service. Friends or family providing food may bring the items to the tavern prior to the reception. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Purvis family.
