George Quadrino Obituary
George A. Quadrino, 80, of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Fairfax, Virginia.
George was born in Yonkers, New York to John and Marguerite Quadrino on June 30, 1945. He went to school in Greenfield, Massachusetts, a town that he forever cherished. He graduated with a degree in history from Bridgewater State University and a law degree from Georgetown Law School. In 1971, he married Margaret Graham Quadrino in Melrose, Massachusetts, after which the two moved to London for a year, where George received his Masters in International Law from University College London.
George practiced maritime shipping law in Washington, DC, both in private practice and for the Federal Maritime Commission, until his retirement in 2011. During his time at the Commission, he served as Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Enforcement and Counsel to the Managing Director.
George loved to be active in his community—both professionally and personally. He held several leadership positions with the Maritime Administrative Bar Association, including as president, as well as with the Sleepy Hollow Civic Association, where he served two terms as president, as well as treasurer, editor of the Legend, and most recently as its historian.
After his son's death from childhood cancer in 1985, George and his wife, Margaret, and several close friends founded the John Quadrino Foundation for Children with Cancer and their Families, a non-profit organization that works with many area hospitals to assist families navigating the extreme difficulties of childhood cancer. Over the last 40 years, the Foundation has helped more than 10,000 families.
George is preceded in death by his son, John James Graham Quadrino, and by George's older brother, Gerard Quadrino.
George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret, his daughter, Leah, his son-in-law, Finley Martin, his granddaughter, Irene Martin, his sister-in-law Kathleen Deyman, his brother-in-law, George Deyman, his sister-in-law, Michelle Quadrino, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Quadrino Foundation for Children with Cancer and their Families, P.O Box 4614, Falls Church, VA 22044.
