George Ray Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Prattville Memorial Chapel & Memory Gardens on Jan. 21, 2026.
RAY, George Walter, 85, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

George was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a man whose life was marked by service to others and trust in God's promises. For 64 years, he shared life with his beloved wife, Judy, and found his greatest joy in loving and caring for his family across generations.

He retired from Rooms To Go, having previously worked for Otasco and Western Auto for 35 years. A faithful member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, George was known for his servant's heart and compassion. He loved visiting church members in assisted living and care facilities, offering encouragement, prayer and friendship. His quiet presence and genuine care touched many lives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Judy Ray; three daughters, Michele Uptigrove (Jim), Sherry Jefcoat (Will), and Jennifer Sharples; six grandchildren, Elise Uptigrove, Hannah Uptigrove, Ray Chad Jefcoat (Rena), Michael Jefcoat, Skyler Sharples, and Shelby Sharples; three great-grandchildren, Maddi Stinson, Amelia Stinson, and Xavion Sharples; along with extended family and many dear friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Pearley Ray, and his great-granddaughter, Eleanor Mae Genice Jefcoat.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, with Dr. Rick Marshall, Pastor Jeremy Smalley and Pastor Dan Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
