Roe, age 80, of Rome, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024 at Rome Health.He was born December 21,1943 in Rome, a son of the late Clarence and Blanche Burkhart Roe, and educated in Rome schools. George was united in marriage to Dorothy W. Dutcher on March 3, 1961. He worked as a groundskeeper and maintenance at Rome Memorial Hospital, retiring from there after many years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.I am because you were. We will forever be grateful for everything you have taught us all over the years, including his children's friends that he adopted as his own over the years. George would drop whatever he was doing and jump to help anyone in need. A life that touches others, goes on forever. "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." -A.A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh)George is survived by his children, Laura Roe-Fenton of Rome, Julia Roe and fiancé, Kris Speed of Vancleave, MS, April Holeck of Rome, and George Roe, Jr. of Rome; grandchildren, Amanda, Aric, Kayla, Brianna and Aiden; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, his daughter, Roxanne Roe, sister Julia Canfield, brothers, Richard Roe, John Roe, Sam Roe, Robert Roe, and Howard Roe.The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, at 7:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery on December 4, at 11 AM (pending snow).Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM, prior to the funeral service.The family would like to thank the staff at Rome Health on 2East for their compassion and care giving to George these past few weeks.
