George Edward Simon

1947 - 2026

George Edward Simon, 78, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Whiteland, Indiana.

He was born on February 22, 1947 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to John B. Simon and Irene (Gilbert) Simon. George married Caroyln Sue (Lewis) Simon on May 24, 1966. Survivors include his sons, John E. (Linda) Simon of Franklin and Mark D. Simon of New Whiteland; grandchildren, Ryan (Shelby) Simon, Gregory Simon, Julie Simon, Cody Simon, and Finley (Casey) Thorne; one great-grandchild, Skye Simon; sister, Marjorie Gail Simon of Franklin; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in passing by his parents, John B. Simon and Irene (Gilbert) Simon; his beloved wife Carolyn Sue (Lewis) Simon; and an infant brother.

George was a 1965 graduate of Franklin Community High School. He also received both his Master's and Bachelor's degrees from Indiana Central University. George served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 before he was honorably discharged. He was formerly employed by Naval Avionics Center/Raytheon until he retired in 2016.

George was Past Master of Jubilee Masonic Lodge #746 and past Advisor for Centennial Chapter of DeMolay in Whiteland. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, and the Association of Air Force Missileers. George was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking, astronomy, science fiction, and country music.

Pastor Kevin Whitaker will conduct a celebration of George's life on Thursday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Memorial donations may be made to the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation.
