George VanBuren Sims, 73, of Disputanta, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Born in Bellvue, Pennsylvania, on October 16, 1950, he was the son of the late George Addison and Nancy Bowser Sims. He was also preceded in death by his son, George Aaron Sims, and his mother-in-law, Zella Wilson.

George retired from Walmart Distribution Center as a truck driver after 26 dedicated years. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend, his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Known for his infectious laugh that could light up any room, George had a great ability to bring joy to others through his sense of humor and joke-telling. He was a caring soul, always making time for a friendly phone call to check in on loved ones. George was also an avid reader and passionate poker player. Though his absence is felt deeply, the love and laughter he shared will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandy Sims; daughter, Valerie Phillips and wife, Emily Campbell; grandchildren, Kimberly, Jeremy, Angel, J., Zoey, Abram, and Gwen; father-in-law, John Wilson (Leigh); and a host of other extended family members.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
