One of the greatest joys of my life was talking with Uncle George. He was so interesting and interested in what others had to say. He made me feel like my opinions mattered and that it was absolutely imperative that I go to school and use my brain. He made me feel like I had important things to say, because he was interested in hearing them. One of my favorite memories with Uncle George was when I was attending the University of Baltimore and taking classes in a learning community that had a shared theme around race in America. He called me up and invited me to come over and discuss my classes. When I came over he informed me about his personal history as a civil rights activist and his work to help integrate Milford Mill swimming pool. I was blown away! We had such an amazing chat and the whole day has stuck in my mind for years. I love Uncle George so dearly and will always think of him as someone who never stopped learning and was sincerely interested in the world and the people around him. It's the way I try to live my life. I love and miss you, Uncle George.
