George Tarakji

George Tarakji, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and beloved friend to many; passed away surrounded by his family on December 1, 2025 in Troy, Michigan. His life was defined by kindness, class and endless devotion to his family and the people around him.

Born in Aleppo in 1935, he was shaped by the rich heritage and culture of that eternal city. After graduating high school from Aleppo College, he pursued higher education at Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey, where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. The experience put him on a path for a remarkable career in Syria. Over decades of service, George helped design and build dams, bridges, and oil refineries, leaving behind structures as enduring as the legacy he built in the hearts of those who knew him. In recognition of his monumental services, he was awarded the Presidential Syrian Order of Merit in 1967.

George's love for his native land of Syria was deeply rooted, yet it was equally matched by his gratitude and affection for his new home in the United States. He embraced both places with pride, carrying forward the best each culture had to offer and weaving the values into the life he built for his family.

His approach to life was a mixture of optimism, gratitude, hard work and kindness, a combination that eased any challenge. His caring nature, gentle spirit, and contagious smile made everyone feel welcome in his presence. To know George was to feel uplifted, understood, and appreciated. He had a unique gift for bringing joy into the ordinary.

A lifelong learner, George found great pleasure in reading and immersed himself in books that fueled his curiosity. He also treasured classical music, often filling his home with melodies.

Above all, George cherished his family. He was a loving husband, supportive father, and proud grandfather whose face lit up at the mention of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Marcelle Khuri, children: Sandra (Hassan Nemeh) and Khaldoun (Rima Sarraf), and his grandchildren Allen, Stephenie, Lilly and Amanda. His love for life and for those he shared it with will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

George left behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and unwavering positivity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered
