George Taratsas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakwood Funeral Home and Crematory - Maplewood on Feb. 11, 2026.
Georgios Efthimios Taratsas was born on September 4, 1954 in Pentapoli Greece. He passed away peacefully in his home in Minneapolis on Sunday February 8th at 8:05am due to complications from pneumonia.

In Greece George grew up playing a sport he always loved, soccer. At 19 he joined the Greek army for two years. Then in 1974 he came to America and made Minnesota his home for 51 years of his life. In 1992 George opened up his own restaurant. A steakhouse in Roseville and he would continue to manage different steakhouses with his brother Bob for over 30 years. Cooking had always been a passion of his and a way of connecting with people through his life.

George is survived by his daughter, Maria; son, Efthimios (Tim); sisters, Asimo and Foula; nephews, George, Mario, Makis, Sakis; niece, Dimitra and Grandson Zaiden. Along with many wonderful great-nieces and great-nephews.

George will be remembered for the commitment and selflessness he showed, to not only his family, but to everyone in his life. His humor, love of film, his faith and creative pranks will also be remembered by us all. Bringing a smile to someone's face was what George strived for each day. He also did this through music, by singing and playing his favorite songs for people on his bazouki. The laughter, music and unconditional love he shared with us all, will be remembered and cherished forever. May he rest in peace and his memory be eternal.
