John Duddeck Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakwood Funeral Home and Crematory - Maplewood on Mar. 12, 2026.
Our hearts are broken as we share the passing of the heart of our family, John "Jack" Duddeck, who left us peacefully while in the VA Hospital at 10:25 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother- in-law, uncle, cousin and a great friend to many whose presence in our lives will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna; his sister-in-law, Mavis Mallinger (David); and his sons, Baby Duddeck and Mark Duddeck. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carol Duddeck; his sons, Scott Duddeck (Cindy) and Todd Duddeck (Bitsie); and daughter-in-law, Jeni Duddeck. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kari Kogler (Ryan), Jonathan Duddeck (Abby Tellin), Samantha Duddeck (Jase Leiter), Shelby Duddeck, Jake Duddeck, Kaitlyn Duddeck (Alec Bobrofsky), Lindsey Duddeck, and Lucas Duddeck; his great-grandchildren, Layla Duddeck and Madison Kogler, and great-grandson Baby Boy Duddeck who is on the way. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Gary Zick and Robert Zick, along with many other cherished family members and friends.

Jack's journey was marked by a profound dedication to his family and a lifelong commitment to hard work and generosity. He instilled in all of us his strong family values, an unwavering work ethic, and a deep-seated will to help and do anything for anyone. These were not just lessons he spoke of; they were the principles by which he lived every single day.

Jack was proud to serve his country as a member of the United States Navy and the National Guard. His time in the military was an important part of his life, and he carried that sense of duty and pride with him long after his service ended. Jack valued the friendships he made and the experiences he had during those years. His service reflected his love for his country and his willingness to step up when it mattered.

He found immense joy in the simple things in life. Jack was an avid outdoorsman who cherished the time spent hunting and fishing, finding peace and contentment in nature. He was also a man of many practical talents, delighting in the process of making homemade jelly, canning the harvest, and countless other hands-on projects that enriched the lives of those around him. His ability to turn a simple ingredient into a shared treasure was one of his many gifts.

Those who knew him will always remember his hardworking spirit and his extraordinary ability to fix, build, or do most anything he set his mind to. His generous heart was always open, and he possessed a remarkable willingness to be there the moment someone needed help. There was no request too large or small; he would truly do anything to help anyone in need, offering his time, his skills, and his unconditional support without hesitation. His selflessness was a beacon to our community and to everyone he encountered.

Most of all, Jack was immensely proud of his family, which he loved very much and for whom he would move mountains. They were the absolute center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent together, whether it was a holiday gathering, a quiet afternoon, or a shared meal. His greatest legacy is the love and unity he fostered within his family.

Jack will be missed more than words can say. While the void he leaves behind can never be filled, the abundance of love, the precious memories, and the invaluable lessons we learned from him will stay with us and in our hearts forever.

Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult time as we navigate this profound loss. We take comfort in knowing he is at peace and that his spirit will continue to guide us.
