George Terry Obituary

George P. Terry

June 7, 1970 - October 1, 2025

On October 1, 2025, George Patrick Terry, loving son, brother, uncle and friend passed away at the age of 55. George was born on June 7, 1970, in Fort Wayne, Ind. to Timothy Terry and the late Jean (Pumphrey) Terry. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

George spent most of his life in Bloomington-Normal, Ill. and most recently resided at Gateway at River City in Peoria, Ill. after he suffered a stroke at the age of 50. He graduated from Normal Community High School in 1989 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in History from DePaul University and a Master of Science in history from Illinois State University. He had a particular love for the history of Eastern Civilization kindled by his participation in the Junior Ambassador program of the Bloomington-Normal/Asahikawa Sister Cities program.

Lego creations didn't need instructions when George was involved. He could create Lego master pieces one Lego brick at a time simply with the design he imagined. He was also an EverQuest enthusiast as well as an enthusiast of the Civilization series (if you know you know). You could ask him most anything about Star Trek or Star Wars and he would have the answer.

Many of George's favorite memories included his lifelong friends - his "band of brothers". Some of those times included trips to watch two of the "band" race their cars and Civ (ilization) weekends where they set up "gaming camp" for the entire weekend. George was also passionate about his furry companions. After the age of two, there was rarely a point in his life he didn't have at least one four-legged companion.

George's kindhearted, humble and caring nature will be missed by all who knew him. George was preceded in death by his mother, his grandparents William and Josephine Terry, Glen and Ethel Pumphrey and Robert Fulton and one of the "band of brothers", Erik Bogren. In addition to his father and stepmother, Karen Terry, of Linn Creek, Mo. he is survived by his sister, Stacy Terry of Pekin, Ill.; his brother, Blaine Terry of St. Joseph, Mo.; nieces, Paydyn and Callie Cody of Pekin, Ill.; grandmother, Betty Fulton of Bloomington, Ill.; and "band of brothers" Phil Britton, Michael Grater, Michael Stivers, and Steve Vetter. He also leaves behind his beloved furry companion, Koda.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 20, at 5 p.m. at Kibler Brady Ruestman Memorial Home – 1104 N. Main Street, Bloomington, Ill. The service will be officiated by Pastor David Glesne. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service. Cremation has been accorded and there will be a private Committal service on Thursday, October 23 at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Camdenton, Mo. officiated by Father Paulinus Aneke.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in memory of George to the Humane Society of Central Illinois or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a thank you to the residents and staff at Gateway at River City for making George a part of their family.
