George Therriault of Watkinsville, age 87, earned his angel wings on June 22, 2023.
Raised in New Hampshire, George developed a passion for automobiles and airplanes from a very young age. Upon graduation from Pinkerton Academy, he fulfilled his childhood dream when he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he embarked on a life-long career, rising to the rank of Senior Chief. During his time in service, he received numerous awards, meritorious recognition, a Vietnam conflict medal with one Bronze Star, was Flight Crew Captain in the Western Pacific Hurricane Hunters VW-1, and was part of the area weather reconnaissance assisting NASA with Apollo recovery. Upon retirement from the military, George went on to his second career continuing his passion for airplanes, with Lockheed-Martin and the C-5 Galaxy.
George was always known for his warm personality and having a kind word for everyone he met, always willing to lend a helping hand, quick with a joke or a story, and had an infectious laugh. He was deeply rooted in family, his love of God, and his dedication to his country.
George is survived by his loving wife, Anita, daughters Karen Singleton and Susan Pannell (Alex), grandsons Connor and Collin Pannell; Brothers Henry Therriault, Robert Therriault (Phyllis), and James Therriault, and many beloved nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Agnes Therriault.
"May you fly high in the heavens, watching over us all."
A visitation celebrating George's life is planned for Sunday, July 2, 2023, from 1 PM to 3 PM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel with military honors being accorded at 3 PM.
