Sr. Monique Therriault
Windham, NH - Sister Monique (formerly Sister M. Augustine) Therriault, 90, a Sister of Mercy for 72 years, passed away in the company of sisters, friends, and staff at the Warde Senior Living, Windham, New Hampshire on August 20th, 2025. A native of Claremont, New Hampshire, she was one of four children of the late Adelard and Leonie (Lafreniere) Therriault.
Sister Monique held degrees – a B.A. in education from Mount St. Mary College in Hooksett, New Hampshire and a M.A. in religious education from Emmanuel College in Boston. Her early ministry as a Sister of Mercy was in education, teaching in elementary schools in New Hampshire. For 15 years, Sister Monique taught primary grades at McDonald School, St. Joseph School, and St. Catherine School in Manchester; at Holy Trinity School in Somersworth, at St. Thomas Aquinas School in Derry, at St. Rose of Lima School in Littleton, and at St. Mary School in Claremont
Subsequent to teaching first graders, Sister Monique held positions in adult religious education and spirituality. For 38 years, Sister Monique responded to ministry needs of the New Hampshire Berlin and Gorham communities where she served as director/co-director of the Christian Life Center in Berlin, pastoral associate in Good Shepherd Parish, chaplain at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital, and pastoral counselor at the Gorham Medical Center. She also was a co-director at the Dover and Durham Christian Life Center.
Sister Monique's generosity and giftedness in volunteer services spread throughout the Berlin and Gorham communities. She held governance positions as a member of the Androscoggin Valley Hospital Board, St. Kieran Guest House Board, Family Resource Center Board at Gorham, Good Shepherd Parish Pastoral Council, Northern NH Mental Health Council, and the Governor's Council on Humanities. She launched the founding of Northern NH Charitable Fund, the Endowment for Health (1999-2002), and St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts. She provided spiritual guidance as convener of the Berlin/Gorham Clergy Association and served as spiritual director of Androscoggin Valley Hospital, Home Health & Hospice, Christian Education Ecumenical Task Force, and New England Symposium of Directors of Adult Religious Education
Sister Monique shared graciously and generously all her strong visionary and professional skills and gifts in her 72 years of life ministries as a Sister of Mercy. Sister Monique's dedication to the people was recognized when the Berlin/Gorham Rotary Club presented her with the 2002 Community Service Award.
Sister Monique is survived by the members of her Mercy Community, sister-in-law Carol and several nieces and nephews.
Sister Monique was predeceased by two brothers Norman and Paul Therriault; sister, Denise Therriault, RSM; and sister-in-law; Helene.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at the Warde Senior Living, 21 Searles Road, Windham, New Hampshire on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 10:30 am. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, New Hampshire. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864-1124, and online at
