George Thomas, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born on July 4, 1952 in Madison to Robert and Ann (Semor) Thomas. He married Janet Straus on February 24, 1973. He dedicated over 30 years with the phone company in Sun Prairie, retiring in December of 2009. In the late 1970’s, George was one of the founding members that helped establish the Sun Prairie EMS.
George was a 4-wheel drive enthusiast with the 4 Lakes 4 Wheelers. He was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed creating woodworking projects. He had a love for all his dogs throughout the years. He never missed a Packer game. He enjoyed the outdoors, and they spent much of their free time camping.
George had a wild sense of humor and loved to joke. He always reveled in whether or not people took him seriously! His love for his family and grandchildren knew no boundaries. He cherished the moments and memories he was able to make with them.
George is survived by his wife of 52 WONDERFUL years, Janet; his children, Pauline Schneider and Nicholas (Elena) Thomas; grandchildren, Caden, Zoya, and Sasha; siblings, Kathy (Marv) Derr and Tim (Wanda) Thomas; sister-in-law, Nancy Thomas; in-laws Doug (Suzanne) Straus, Ed (Judy) Straus, and Judy (Dan) Busse; and many other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Thomas; his parents; brother, Mike Thomas; son-in-law, Dave Schneider.
Visitation will be from 9-11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert the Great Drive, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM.
George’s family wishes to thank the oncology team at UW Hospital for their compassion while caring for George.
