George E. Treadway

George Edward Treadway, age 79, departed this life at home surrounded by family on April 15, 2025. Born on October 3, 1945, he served his community as a Rural Mail Carrier for 33 years while also being an avid farmer, fisherman, and hunter.
George was preceded in death by his parents Ellison and Sarah Rains Treadway, along with siblings Derotha Kimbley, Frances Heichelbech, and Shirley Ellison. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rebecca West Treadway, daughter Holly Napier (fiancé Phillip Powers), and his shining pride grandson Jackson Napier. Other survivors include his brothers Robert Treadway, Neal Treadway (Patti), Rosemary Swalls (Roger), Cecil Williams, along with a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brother-in-law Jackie West (Susan). A special thank you goes to Beck's "Good Girl," Kris Powers. Last, but certainly not least, he leaves behind his small furry dog-granddaughter, Dandelion.
Defeating severe cancer diagnoses twice in 1983 and 2004 respectively, George was known as a "man's man." Often seen in his Liberty overalls, he was continually busy when his health allowed. Each year he maintained an immaculate (and ridiculously large) garden, fished, and spent every moment possible with Jackson, who refers to his Pap as his "best friend." He was quick to smile and speak to strangers and rarely failed to tell people that he was "happy," despite any circumstances surrounding him. He was a faithful member of Summey's Bridge Baptist Church.
Funeral visitation will be at the Harrogate Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 3:00-5:00PM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 5:00PM with private burial immediately following at Chumley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jackson Napier, Phillip Powers, Kevin Napier, Neal Chumley, Randall Cowan and Howard Baer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Neal Treadway, Robert Treadway, Roger Swalls, Jackie West, Billy Ray McMurray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Samaritan's Purse, both of which were close to George's heart.
