George Richard Wagner, 81, of the Town of Sevastopol, died at his home on Sunday morning, August 31, 2025.
He was born August 5, 1944 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late George Charles and Patricia Marie (Madden) Wagner. George graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1963. On November 14, 1964 he married the love of his life, Carla Mae Tassoul at St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Church. Carla preceded George in death on June 27th, 1995, and he carried her memory with him every day for the remainder of his life.
George dedicated 28 years to PBI and his remaining 10 years were with Bay Ship in the tool room. He retired in 2004. His greatest joy was his family. George took great pride in the family that he and Carla created. He was always in the stands of his grandchildren's activities. He could be found sitting quietly on the sidelines of wrestling matches, baseball, softball, football and basketball games as well as theater and pageant events. When he wasn't doing that, he loved nothing more than working around his old homestead, which he affectionately called "The Ranch". He tended to his many gardens, harvesting every vegetable imaginable but especially cucumbers. With those, he could be sure that his family was all stocked with pickles throughout the year. George's love of hunting and fishing was also a significant part of his life. He could often be found fishing off one of the many docks around Sturgeon Bay and ice fishing when able. George loved nature, wildlife and being outside, which made fall one of his favorite times of year. He loved spending time in his deer stand and being an active part of everybody's hunt, whether it was helping track a deer or simply listening to all the other hunting stories.
His surviving family includes three children, Wendell (Anita) Wagner, Mark (Tina) Wagner, Amy (Lance) Ellefson; grandchildren, Tyler (Ashley) Wagner, Nolan Wagner, Laura (Davis) Stoffel, Neal (Shauna) Wagner, Jessica (Derek) Niedzwiecki, Ashley (fiancé, Matt Hecht) Ellefson, and Cal Ellefson; great-grandchildren, Carter, Emerson, Harvey, Alana, and Noah; sister, Susan (John) Schartner; and sister-in-law, Lauris Wagner. Surviving family also includes many nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to him throughout his life as "Uncle Georgie."
Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Patricia Wagner; wife, Carla; brother, David Wagner; sister, Diane (Bob) Schartner; and sister-in-law, Judy (Ken) Knuth.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to Tom and Cathy Eckers for their lifelong friendship and support to George.

"Though many years have passed since we lost Mom, Dad never stopped carrying the weight of her absence. He loved and missed her fiercely until the end. As Dad leaves this world , we find peace in knowing that he is reunited with her."
