George John Wear, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and lifelong Ham Operator, passed away on March 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 85 years old.
Born on June 12, 1939, to Sarilda Helen Boehm and George Robert Wear, George grew up alongside his sister, Marion Donna Cushing. He graduated from Arvada High School before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966.
On February 17, 1968, George married the love of his life, Mary Colette Connelly, in Lakewood, Colorado. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with faith, family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. On their 50th wedding anniversary, George embraced his Catholic faith, receiving Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion, and the Anointing of the Sick-a testament to his ever-deepening spiritual journey.
George had an incredible passion for ham radio, earning numerous awards and achieving the prestigious DXCC Honor Roll twice. A lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL); he found great joy in connecting with people across the world, making friends through the airwaves.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Colette; his children: Mary Lynnette (Ron) Cordes of Meridian, Idaho; Christine Marie (Mike) Richards of Pueblo, Colorado; John William (Anita) Wear of Fort Collins, Colorado; and George Joseph (Jill) Wear of Timnath, Colorado. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew, Rebekah, Joshua, Mary Elizabeth, Victoria, Daniel, Angela, Katherine, John Paul, Michael, and Benjamin Cordes; Ciera and CJ Richards; Cody Fox; Mitchell, Caleb, and Josie Wear. His legacy continues with 18 great-grandchildren and 2 more expected this year. His faithful black lab, Molly, was always by his side.
A Funeral Mass will be held on April 2, 2025, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Windsor, Colorado. There will be a light reception in the church hall following the service. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2 pm. Services are entrusted to Goes Funeral Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pathways Hospice, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525, in George's memory.
George's legacy lives on in the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the countless lives he touched-both near and far. May he rest in eternal peace.
