George H. Wilson, Jr., a man known for his infectious charisma and generous spirit, passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 8, 1941, in Chester, he brought joy and laughter to the world around him, leaving a legacy of kindness and friendship that will be cherished by all who knew him. George's final days were spent surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
The son of the late George H., Sr. and Agda Virginia (Thelning) Wilson, George was a towering figure in both stature and heart. He was predeceased by his sister, the late Joan (Wilson) Racine. George's life was enriched by the love of his spouse, Josephine "Pina" Macchiarola, who brought immense joy and companionship to his later years. Together, they shared countless moments of laughter and tenderness.
George was a devoted father to his sons, George H. Wilson, III "Jake" and his wife, Kim, Michael Wilson, John Wilson, and Curtis Wilson. He instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family. His grandchildren, Valerie and her husband Jason Devor, Victoria, Allie, Justin, Andrew, Jason, and Olivia Wilson, were the light of his life. He was a playful and doting grandfather, always ready with a story or a game. His great-grandchildren, Eva Ordonez, Kari and Brody Devor, will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather's larger-than-life personality and boundless love.
A beloved figure in the community for over 60 years, George was the esteemed owner and auctioneer at George H. Wilson Auctioneers. Alongside his father, George Sr., he worked tirelessly at Wilson's Auctioneers & Appraisers, eventually co-owning the business and building in Chester Heights. After his father's passing, George sold the business to his son, Michael, but continued his work under his own name, George Wilson, Auctioneer. Known for his bellowing voice that could command any crowd, George's honesty and unmatched enthusiasm made him more than just an auctioneer-he created memorable experiences that his community would cherish forever. His legacy as a skilled auctioneer and a kind, respected figure lives on in the many lives he touched throughout his career.
George's interests were as expansive as his personality. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, holding season tickets for many years and passionately supporting his team. His love for animals was equally deep, and he always found joy in the company of animals, showing a gentle and nurturing side to all living creatures.
He was also known for his ability to captivate an audience, whether through his work or his storytelling. His presence was a guarantee of good times and hearty laughter. George's charm was as effective in his personal life as it was in his professional one. He was the epitome of friendliness, always the first to extend a hand or a kind word. His kindness was a beacon, guiding others toward warmth and generosity.
Generosity was indeed one of George's most defining traits. His giving nature knew no bounds, and he often went out of his way to help others. Whether through his work or in his daily interactions, George's generosity left a lasting impact on those around him. He was a friend to many, always available to lend an ear or provide support.
George H. Wilson, Jr. will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. His legacy is not just in the auction house he built or the items he sold, but in the lives he touched with his extraordinary presence. George's story is one of a life well-lived, full of joy, laughter, and an abundance of love.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that George H. Wilson, Jr. lived a life full of purpose and connection. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift, just as his life did for so many years. George's journey may have come to an end, but the echoes of his laughter and the memories of his kindness will resonate for generations to come.
