George Junior Wilson

George Junior Wilson, formerly a long-time resident of the Mineola area, was called Home on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

George was a New Year's baby in 1947. He was born in Gladewater to Curtis and Reba Hooks Wilson. George was the fourth of six brothers and one sister in the family. He is survived by his sister Darlene Haggerton and his closest brother Kimball's wife, Janie Ruth Wilson.

George went to the New Hope School, followed by high school at Hawkins High School. While he was in school, he developed a deep love of reading. He loved going to the book trader and the library. He always had an extra unread book available within reach just in case.

Hard work was always one of George's top priorities. He was determined to provide a good life for his family. He started his own business, George's Handyman, in 1982. He owned the business until he retired. He was proud to have been able to put his two daughters through Texas A&M University.

George and his wife Vivian relocated to Austin in 2006 to be able to spend as much time as possible with the best grandchild ever born. Being Alistar's GeGe was the light of George's life.

George's immediate family to survive him includes his wife of almost 60 years, Vivian Adams Wilson, his daughters Sonya Wilson and Sharon Wilson Evgenides, his grandchild Alistar Evgenides, and his sons-in-law, Timothy Smith and Toby Evgenides.

George's brother-in-law, David Adams and his wife Robin also survive him, along with many precious nieces and nephews. He also left his best friend, Carl Hasten, behind to remember all the good times they had together working on projects.

Services for George will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 4 at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, 670 FM1804, Mineola. He will be laid to rest in New Hope Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to your favorite library in George's honor.
