Major George Windham, retired Salvation Army Officer, was born and raised in Wichita Kansas.

George married his loving wife on March 6, 1964 prior to entering The Salvation Army School

For Officers Training in Chicago, Il. George and Violet served in three appointments before

moving back to Wichita in 1971. Over the next 20 years, George worked for Coleman Company

and Service Master before re-entering officership, where he and Violet served in Kansas, Illinois

and Missouri before retiring back to Wichita. George was a life-long fan of Wichita State

Basketball and Salvation Army Brass Bands. George was the local Salvation Army Wichita

Citadel Band-Master for 20 years, and played and supported Salvation Army Brass bands when

and wherever possible.

George was also the youngest son of 10 children and loved spending time with the immense

extended family. As a “jokester”, George always found time to share his humor and support of

younger generations.

 

George and Violet served as officers for nearly a quarter of a century and loved the Lord with all

of their hearts, while committing their lives to their family and God. Through their ministry of

pastoral care and growth, music, humor, and teaching, countless lives have been forever

impacted.
