Georgette Chedid

Georgette Chedid passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Kherbet Kanafar, Lebanon on February 12, 1931, Georgette grew up among her loving parents and four siblings and developed a deep devotion to her church and faith. These early years shaped the values she carried throughout her life - hard work, humility, and an unwavering dedication to family and God.

Together with her husband George, she built a loving home and raised five children. Amidst the Lebanese Civil War, she immigrated with her family to New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1976 where she built a new life and became a cherished member of the St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church. There she continued raising her family and watching it grow, always placing faith and hospitality at the center of her life, welcoming all who sought refuge into her home.

Georgette deeply believed that family was God's greatest gift and devoted her life to nurturing and protecting that gift with unwavering care. Her family continued to grow around her; she loved her children-in-law as her own and cherished the grandchildren and great-grandchildren that followed. Her greatest joy was seeing the generations gathered, knowing that the roots she planted would continue to grow long after her.

She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, George Youssef Chedid, with whom she shared a lifetime of partnership and commitment. She was also predeceased by her parents Elias and Wadiiah Chedid, and siblings Wardieh Mcheileh, Josephine Aboufakher, and Tanos Chedid, whose legacy of faith and family she carried forward throughout her life.

She is survived by her children, Nawal Richa and her husband Elie of Somerset, Henriette Chedid and her husband George of North Brunswick, Joseph Chedid and his wife Lisa of North Brunswick, Antoinette Chamoun and her husband George of North Brunswick, and Antoine Chedid and his wife Shadia of North Brunswick. She is also survived by her brother Michel Chedid and his wife Adma.

Georgette also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.

Those who knew Georgette remember her as a woman of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and boundless love. Her life was one of service, and her home was a place of warmth, prayer, and gathering.

She will forever be remembered as the heart of her family-a woman whose faith was her foundation and whose love will continue to echo through the lives of all who call her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy is defined not only by generations of descendants, but in the faith she passed down, the values she instilled, and the love that continues to bind her family together.

May her memory be eternal.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18th from 4 to 8 PM at the GLEASON FUNERAL HOME of NORTH BRUNSWICK, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19th, 10 AM at the funeral home with an 11 AM Mass at St. Sharbel Maronite Church, Somerset. Entombment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
