Georgette "Gigi" Reid (Chlebanowski) fell asleep in death on April 14, 2022 at the age of 66. She was the first of 11 children born to George and Phyllis Chlebanowski on August 1, 1955 in Chicago, IL. Her three children, Tony, Adam, and Alisha brought her great joy during her life.
Gigi battled with many different illnesses that were quite a struggle for her over the years. However, when you peeled away the layers of sickness, you found a hospitable, generous woman who loved people and loved to talk. Her favorite thing to talk about was her faith in her Creator Jehovah God and the hope of perfect life in God's Kingdom. One of the happiest days of her life was when Gigi dedicated her life to her God and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on March 5, 1989.
Whenever she had the chance, Gigi took every opportunity to tell people about God's Kingdom – whether it was to friends, family, doctors, nurses, neighbors or even complete strangers. Her outgoing personality thrived on seeing people and talking to them whenever she could. Her door was always open and she welcomed every visitor who wanted to stop by her home or her room, except during her congregation meetings when she didn't want anyone else to distract her from learning more about the Bible.
When she was healthier, Gigi loved to walk, visit the ocean, and lay out in the sun to get a suntan. She also loved Pooh Bear, turquoise (the gemstone and the color), and watching her favorite football team – the Chicago Bears. Gigi and her enthusiasm will certainly be missed by her friends and family.
Gigi's favorite Scripture was Revelation 21:4, which reads, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." She had strong faith that she would be able to live with no more sickness and no more pain in the paradise earth promised in that Scripture. Gigi was also confident in the Bible's promise that even if she passed away, she would be brought back to life to live in that promised world (John 5:28,29).
Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, nurses' aides, social workers, and case managers that have helped take care of Gigi over the years. Memorial Service will be held virtually via Zoom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses at donate.jw.org.
