Mrs. Georgia Gambrel Abner, 75, of Barbourville, passed away Friday evening, November 17, 2023 at Baptist Health Corbin. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Gessie Messer Gamble born on May 2, 1948 at Fount.
Georgia was a homemaker and a member of Parkway Baptist Church. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her father, Jim, and wife, Carrie Swafford Gambrel.
On May 30, 1964, she united in marriage with Floyd C. "Bill" Abner and to this union five children were born.
In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Abner; daughters, Joyce Croley and Patricia Davis; brothers, Charlie, Gilbert, and Tommie Gamble; sisters, Bertha Smith, Edna Wiggins, Laura Smith, America Tincher, Lucy Smith, Nannie Grubb and infant sisters; Fannie, Lizzie, Gracie, and Odie Gamble.
Survivors include her loving sons, Randy Abner and wife, Nettie, of London, Jeffery Abner and wife, Teresa, of Woollum and Ronnie Abner and wife, Amy, of Richmond; son-in-law, Asher Croley of Barbourville; 16 grandchildren, Aaron Ledford, Tara Dizney, Lisa Williamson, Falisha Teague, Shawn Abner, Lauren Taylor, Millard Spurlock, Oakley Spurlock, Tyler Vaughn, Tiffany Rapier, D. J. Sprinkles, Dylan Abner, Devon Abner, Dalton Abner, Brandon Abner and Emily Abner; 24 great grandchildren, Haven, Luke, Journee, Titan, Alyssa, Brian Jr., Reagan, Haylee, Rylan, Hannah, Oliver, Bryson, Jason, Hayzlee, Madilyn, Abigail, James Daniel, Gavin, Braxton, Trenton, Mia Kay, Charlotte, Ariah and Kylan; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, November 21 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Jerry Vaughn and Rev. Mickie Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
