Gerald P. “Gerry” Ball, 87, died Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Malena (Shaw) Ball. Born in Boston, he was raised in Hyde Park and was a graduate of Roslindale High School. Gerry continued his education and earned his Bachelors Degree at Boston College and later earned his Masters Degree in Education from Cambridge College. Gerry worked as a Teacher in Boston Schools for over 38 years, retiring many years ago. During his career, he taught at South Boston High, Boston English and West Roxbury High School. He was a longtime resident of Hull. Gerry enjoyed his daily walks along Nantasket Beach and rarely missed one of his grandchildren’s events. He enjoyed traveling, usually with his companion Martta Clogston and enjoyed his trips to the Dominican Republic, Las Vegas and Poland Spring, Maine. He also enjoyed spending his winters with Martta in Englewood, FL for many years. Gerry will be missed for his friendly demeanor, his laughter and his outspoken views on current events, politics and whatever other subject that came to mind. His most cherished times were surrounded by his beloved family.

Gerry is survived by his longtime companion Martta Clogston of Weymouth, and his children, Suzanne B. Knight of Walpole, Matthew M. Ball of Hanover, Daniel M. Ball of NC and Peter M. Ball of Hull. He was predeceased by his son Terrence M. Ball, granddaughter Savannah Carson Lynch and his brother Lawrence Ball. He was the cherished “Grampa Gerry” of 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Visiting Hour will be held in the St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 208 Samoset Ave, Hull on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 10-11AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s memory may be made to the Samaritans, 41 West St., 4th Floor, Boston, MA 02211.
