Gerald "Barney" D. Bast Jr.,94, of Ranson, WV passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Martinsburg VA Community Living Center; Palliative Care and Hospice Unit.
Born October 16, 1929 on the Roxbury Farm in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Gerald D. Bast Sr. and Frances Irene Cosens.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the 1st Cavalry Division of the United States Army.
Barney, along with his late wife, Maryann, trained race horses for 50 years.
He was also a member of Zion Episcopal Church, Jackson-Perks Post # 71 of the American Legion and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, all located in Charles Town, WV.
He is survived by his loving daughter Katherine "Kathy" Titus and husband Larry of Ranson, WV; one son, Matthew "Matt" Bast of Ridgeway, WV; one grandson, Derick Titus and wife Lillian of Ranson, WV; one granddaughter, Amanda Titus and partner Stacy of Ranson, WV and one great-granddaughter, Vivian Titus of Ranson WV.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maryann Bast; his "Mom and Pop" who raised him, Frank A. and Lula K. Barnhart; his paternal grandparents William Franklin and Sue Cordelia Bast and one brother, Douglas G. Bast.
Services will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1:30 P.M. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Dr. Henry Christie officiating.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service.
Following the interment the family would like to welcome all for food and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
