Gerald “Spike” Cook, age 77, of Walhalla, ND, passed away on March 3, 2026, at Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier, ND.
He was born on May 4, 1948, in Altona, MB to Gordon “Bud” and Annie Cook. Spike grew up near Leyden, ND. He was the 6th of 8 children. He went on to work many different jobs in his lifetime.
He married Myrna White in 1970, and together they resided on a farm near Leyden and raised two children, Gina and Michael. He is survived by children: Gina Cook (Mark Balsdon) of Fargo and Michael (Erin) Cook of Walhalla; Grandchildren Joshua Balsdon, Wyatt Brusseau, Logan Longtin all of Grand Forks, Mason and Archer Cook of Walhalla; Great-Grandson Hendrix Balsdon of Grand Forks; Mother-In-Law: Laura White of Grand Forks; Siblings: Gary Cook of Karlstad MN, Diane (Rodney) Baker of Florida, Judy Cook of Missouri and David Cook of Walhalla; Siblings-In-Law: Carol (Robert) Osowski of Grafton and Janice (Ted) Berthold of Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Myrna Cook; his parents; siblings: Calvin Cook, Fred Cook and Larry Cook and siblings-in-law: Nancy Peltier and Richard White.
In his free time, Spike enjoyed tinkering in his garage and working in the yard. His family and friends will forever cherish his quick wit and ability to make anyone laugh.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pembina County Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care and support in his final days.
