MIDDLEBURY:

Gerald Stanley DeGray, Sr, age 89, passed peacefully on September 14, 2025, at Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.

Gerald was born in Middlebury on October 19, 1935. He was the son of George and Alfleda (Counter) DeGray, Sr. He grew up in Middlebury where he received his early education. He graduated from Middlebury High school, following his graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served on active duty from 1955 until 1959. After his Honorable Discharge he returned home and went to school under the G.I. Bill. He was a meat cutter at Vergennes Freezer Locker for several years, before joining the staff at Polymers Plastics, from which he retired in 1995 following more than 26 years of service. He enjoyed caring for his property, loved his swimming pool and going to Project Independence. He was a member of Middlebury American Legion Post #27.

He is survived by two sons; Gerald (Barbara) DeGray, Jr. and Michael (Andrea) DeGray, One brother; Joseph (Barbara) DeGray, and one sister; Deniel Hayford. A special granddaughter; Ashley and grandchildren Chris, Michelle, Tonya and Steven and step-granddaughter; Brooke Piper, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife: Loretta DeGray on January 22, 2014; they were married in Brunswick, ME, on June 30, 1955, two sons; Steven DeGray and Stanley DeGray and two brothers; George DeGray and Rodney DeGray.

The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place, on Friday, September 19, 2025,at 10:00 am in the Prospect Cemetery in East Middlebury. Rev. Brandon Schneider, pastor at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury will officiate.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; Project Independence, 112 Exchange St. Middlebury, VT 05753.
