Gerald R. Dohrmann

Gerald R. Dohrmann, age 92, of De Pere, passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Meng Residence in De Pere. He was born in Hampton, IA, October 21, 1931, son of the late Otto and Ella (Uilk) Dohrmann.

After graduating from high school, Gerry enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, proudly serving until his honorable discharge. He continued his education at Concordia University, Riverforest, IL, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Minor in Music. While studying at the University, Gerry traveled the East and West Coasts as part of a quartet, sharing his musical talents at Lutheran Churches. Gerry began his career as a teacher and later was employed by Abbott Laboratories as a computer programmer. He retired from Abbott after 31 dedicated years of service.

Gerald married Ruby (VanDenElzen) Ver Haagh, September 3, 1989 in Bristol, WI. Gerry and Ruby shared 35 years of marriage, music, adventures and travel. He was a gifted musician who directed choirs at several churches and played piano for the De Pere Men's Club for 20 years.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Ruby; his children: Christopher (Laurie), Jeff (Beth), Dianna (Dave) Horton and Jon (Anna); step-children: Laurie Krump, George Ver Haagh and Joe Ver Haagh; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by the mother of his children, Donna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI), Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 PM with full military honors. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, De Pere, WI.
