Gerald Eggener Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home on Oct. 19, 2023.
Gerald Eggener (Jerry), a loving husband and devoted father peacefully departed this world on October 17th, 2023. Born in Menominee, Michigan on December 12, 1952, he was the cherished son of Edward and Louise Eggener, with a deep and enduring bond with his father that remained a cornerstone of his life.
Jerry once wrote of his father that he was "always giving, always caring a gentle giant who possessed the skill and knowledge of any 10 craftsmen." After working closely with his father for many years, Jerry developed the same character and competence. His resourcefulness, ingenuity, and determination were Jerry's defining traits.
Throughout his career, Jerry applied these traits as a machinist, head of the physical plant at the University of Wisconsin Marinette, a construction foreman, and an electrician. Outside of work, Jerry used his skills to design and build his own home, and to help friends and family with various projects. He found great joy and purpose in using his unique talents to assist those in need.
In his leisure time, Jerry applied his capabilities and creativity in his workshop, where his passion was to create various works of art. These creations ranged from life-sized metal sculptures to ornate Disney-inspired Christmas decorations and even a witch that flew around his yard on Halloween.
A common thread in all of Jerry's work, whether professional or creative, at home or for others, was his unwavering commitment to doing things "the right way" without exception. This dedication and determination also characterized his life with his deeply loved family.
Together with his wife of 41 years, Sherry Eggener, he built a beautiful home and property where they raised their family. They never quite finished an endless array of projects and home improvements. With his children, Allison and Jared, Jerry was determined to pass on the values that had benefited his own life. He never missed an opportunity to teach and guide them, hoping to lead them to a life as fulfilling as his own.
Jerry and his family enjoyed spending their time golfing, skiing, camping, and exploring near and far. They explored everything from the waterfalls of Marinette County to camping trips across the upper Midwest, ski trips to Colorado, repeated visits to Walt Disney World, and cruises to Hawaii and Alaska. Jerry viewed the world with innate curiosity and always found inspiration in his travels.
In his later years, even as Jerry battled Lewy body Dementia, he never lost his quick wit and wry sense of humor that endeared him to his friends and family. Despite the challenges posed by his condition, he always exerted himself to be present, kind, and attentive to his grandchildren, Luke, Leighton (Allison and Garett Bunkelman), and Reid (Jared Eggener and Elizabeth Faller), forming a lasting bond with them during their time together, and they will forever affectionately remember him as Bumps and Bumpa."
Jerry's journey, marked by his dedication, integrity, humor, and faith, leaves an enduring legacy in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In honor of Jerry Eggener's life, a memorial service will be held on October 21, 2023 at Faith Church- 350 N Stephenson Ave, Peshtigo, Wisconsin, with visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. with church service to follow at 12:00 P.M.

Dear Allison...
Though I never had the pleasure of knowing your Dad, what a wonderful man he must have been, to (along with your Mom) have raised such a kind, compassionate daughter. It was a joy to have you as my student once upon a time, and continues to be a joy to this day, to have you as my valued colleague. Sending warm thoughts to comfort you and your family.

My daughter Kelsey went to school with Allison. The girls were on a ski trip while in Middle school. Jerry had chaperoned it. Kelsey had hit a pole and was taken to the hospital. Jerry went along and was willing to stay with her overnight if they would have kept her overnight. I could not believe this. I knew he was a very nice, thoughtful, caring, and wonderful father. But I couldn´t believe that he was willing to do this. Through the years. I got to really know him and Sherry. Everything in his obituary is so very true about him. He was one of the most thoughtful, caring, and witting human being. Jerry suffered these later years as well as his family. I pray their pain will be eased. By having all the wonderful memories of him. Our world need more Jerry´s!
