Passed away Monday morning, May 13, 2024, at his home. Jerry was born May 23, 1929, in Newberry, MI, the son of Nels and Mildred (Marlett) Engman. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked many years at the Kalamazoo State Hospital where he retired as safety officer. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He was a Mr. “Fix It” type of person that could fix anything and would help anyone in need. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a faithful husband, generous friend, a willing helper, and respected neighbor.
On February 6, 1954, Jerry was united in marriage to his loving wife of over 70 years, Lila (Quinlan), who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Katherine Little; grandchildren, Gerald Engman II (Amber), Erick Engman, Damion Little; great-grandchildren, Abel and Madison; sister, Betty Gage; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by children, Erick, Christopher, and Diane; and 7 brothers and sisters. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00am Monday, May 20, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 622 South Burdick, Kalamazoo, MI 49007, where funeral services will follow at 11:00am.
