Gerald Evey Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 28, 2025.
Gerald R. "Jerry" Evey, age 93, of Troy (previously of Royal Oak), passed away on February 24, 2025. He was born in Jersey Shore, PA to Gerald and Ellen Evey on January 3, 1932.
Jerry was raised in Pleasant Gap, PA, where he played football and wrestled, developing a lifelong love for sports. After graduating from Bellefonte High School in 1952, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Phyllis, on April 22, 1953. They were married for over 70 years until Phyllis passed away on January 15, 2024.
Upon returning to Pennsylvania after his military service, Jerry worked on a dairy farm for a period before embarking on a new chapter in 1966, when he moved to the Detroit area to work for General Motors in security.
Throughout his life, Jerry remained a dedicated sports fan, with an unwavering devotion to the Detroit Tigers and the University of Michigan Wolverines. And his enthusiasm for sports wasn't limited to watching; he was a constant presence at all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, always offering support and encouragement.
One of Jerry's greatest joys was returning to his roots in Pennsylvania. He and Phyllis made it a tradition to visit every year, especially during the spring, summer, and fall, before heading back home for the winter months. It was their special place, filled with cherished memories and a deep connection to his upbringing.
Jerry is survived by his children: Sandy (Kirk) Stauffer, Ed (Lisa) Evey, Thomas (Diane) Evey; his grandchildren: Lindsey, Megan, Kaylin, Katie, Dan, and Kristen; and his nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis.
Private services are planned for springtime.

Condolences to the family. Jerry and his wife, Phyllis, were my neighbors who are greatly missed. My fur babies miss their treats that Jerry always had for them when we were out taking a walk. They were such caring people.

To the family of Jerry, I am so sorry for your loss. Jerry was a great man and so kind. As a neighbor of Jerry and Phyllis for years, I have many cherished memories of them. When the weather was warm, they would sit on their lawn chairs on the driveway. Before you knew it, two or three of us neighbors would join them, and we would have so much fun sharing stories. They were both so welcoming. Jerry would have dog treats for the neighborhood pups. When I look out my front door, I still miss seeing those two very special people. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Patty Donovan

Please hold the gates open...I hope you have some pull up there .I may need some help getting in..love you Jerry.
