Gerald G. Freeman, 93, of Harrisburg, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at his home under the care of Atrium Hospice-Kannapolis.

Gerald was born October 12, 1932, in Stanly County, North Carolina to Clarence Freeman and Margret Ada Poplin Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his siblings, Laura Herlocker (Harvey), Alice Hatley (Henry), Matha Honeycutt (Grady), Chessie Freeman (Hazel), Robert Freeman (Myrtle), and Jason Freeman.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Hartsell Funeral Home, 12115 University City Blvd, Harrisburg, NC 28075. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at New Hope Baptist Church, 7841 Idlewild Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.

Survivors include Gerald’s wife of 73 years, Wilma S. Freeman; and his children Yevone Sherrill (Glen), Glenn Freeman (Cassie), Dale Freeman (Rose), James Freeman (Jacky), and Elaine Brown (Mark); and Gerald’s grandchildren Tim Freeman (Julie), Scott Freeman (Ananda), Brittiany Kowalski (Chris), Adam Freeman (Bria), Chad Freeman (Melanie), Jessica Freeman, Megan Ocampo (Andrew), and Kristen Brown; and Gerald’s great grandchildren Sebastian Freeman, Asher Freeman, Shelby Kowalski, Daxley Freeman, Rhys Freeman, Gray Freeman, Ethan Hensley, Eli Hensley, Sophia Ocampo, and Caleb Ocampo; and his sister-in-law, Flora Freeman of Albemarle.

Gerald was an avid gardener, and you didn’t get to leave his home without walking through his garden or greenhouse. And, whatever fruit or vegetable was ready for gathering, you left with enough to make a “mess” for dinner. Gerald was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, but his love for Wilma was absolute which was equally returned by Wilma to Gerald. Gerald’s only greater devotion was for his love and service to Jesus Christ. He was quick to share that God sent Jesus, God’s only begotten Son; but Gerald himself, as a Christian and child of God, was a son of God as well. Gerald’s prayer in his final days was that if he could no longer serve and bring glory to God, he wanted to be taken Home to Glory. Gerald, praise God, you’re Home with the Lord with no more suffering or pain; and it's been said that there's a garden.

The family would like to thank Atrium Hospice-Kannapolis for their care during Gerald’s illness with a special thank you to Beth, especially during Gerald’s final days.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church or Atrium Hospice-Kannapolis.
