Gerald Geter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herschel Thornton Mortuary on Oct. 22, 2024.
Jerald Don Geeter, "Gerald Geter" was born on June 9, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the cherished only child of the late Bridie and Alice Geeter.
Gerald's early years were shaped by his education in the Atlanta Public School system, where he also developed a passion for football, playing in a Community Semi-Pro League for three years. After his time in school, he found his true calling in the construction field, embarking on a distinguished career that included significant tenures at the H.J. Russell Company and the Atlanta Housing Authority. Despite facing health challenges after suffering a stroke in the early 2000s, Gerald's dedication never wavered; he continued to lead crews in repairs and renovations, showcasing his expertise as a certified plumber and electrician. Among his proudest accomplishments were his contributions to iconic Atlanta landmarks, including the Marriott Marquis and the Westin Peachtree Plaza.
In the summer of 1969, Gerald married Annie "Gin", and together they shared 22 years of love and partnership. Their union blessed them with three children: Cedric (Robyn), Kina, and Reginald "Reggie" (Cathy). Gerald's legacy also lives on through his six beloved grandchildren: David Laster IV, Donovan Geter, Dominique Laster, Tyler Geter, RaShawn Geter, and RaeLynn Geter, as well as three step-grandchildren, Darnell Heads, Tiara Heads, and Jordan Teasley. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Major Geter and three step-great-grandchildren: Londyn Heads, Laila Heads, and Zuri Heads.
Gerald is survived by two aunts, numerous cousins, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever remember his warmth, humor, and unwavering spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family and community.
He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
