Gerald William Goodman, a former longtime resident of St John, KS passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Born in Hutchinson, KS on July 4,1936 to Lowell and Mary Goodman, he came into the world quite the firecracker and left a lasting legacy. Growing up in Pratt and on the family farm in Stafford County, Gerald graduated from Pratt High School in 1954. He attended Pratt Community College for two years and Kansas State University for one year before assuming the family farm following the untimely death of both parents. A highly respected farmer and rancher, he valued his word and a firm handshake above all else. He married the love of his life, Heidi Ann Ronen, on July 29, 1967. Together they raised three children and were very active in the St. John community. A dedicated Lions Club Member, Gerald organized and directed the Mid Winter Classic basketball tournament for many years. An avid golfer, he loved his golf trips to Myrtle Beach and he and Heidi helped start the golf program at St. John High School. He served on the boards at First National Bank and the Iuka Co-op. Outgoing and humorous, with an infectious belly laugh, Gerald didn’t know a stranger. Being born on the Fourth of July, Gerald loved throwing a good party! He and Heidi hosted many July 4th celebrations throughout the years at their family farm. Gerald’s favorite food was without question a really good steak and he enjoyed watching football and old westerns. He adored kids, took great joy in making them feel special, and loved giving them quarters for their piggy bank. Nothing filled his heart more than spending time with his grandchildren.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Heidi, of Hutchinson, KS; daughter Jill (Jarrod) of Manhattan, KS; son Scott (Jennifer) of Phoenix , AZ; son Jason (Sydney) of Gardner, KS; as well as four grandchildren; Stevi, Cade, Skylar, Rylie; and two step grandchildren; Camden and Teagen.

Gerald was a warm, generous, and kind person. He gave freely of himself, always thinking of others. But his greatest devotion was to his family, whom he loved deeply. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Gerald's family will be having a celebration of life service at a later date and will be announced here on our website.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made in his name to the Gerald Goodman Memorial scholarship fund. Anyone that wishes to contribute may send their donation in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS  67576.
