Gerald Griffin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 7, 2023.
Woodland---Gerald Thomas Griffin, 85, passed away at his home in Woodland on Friday, January 6, 2023. Born January 2, 1938, in Chickasaw County, he was the son of the late Eldridge Griffin and the late Margaret Cook Griffin. Gerald was a member of Amity Baptist Church, and was retired after over 32 years with MPI in Houston. In 1961, he married the former Geraldine Jennings, and they have spent over 61 years together.
Gerald could be found at the Sparta Opry every Friday night. He enjoyed helping to cook but also loved an occasional game of Rook. He was an avid fan of his Mississippi State Bulldogs, but would always be at the ballgames of his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved his church and church family, and attended faithfully as long as he was able. Above all, his family meant the most to him. He cherished the time spent with them, and his memory will be forever held in their hearts.
Southern Funeral Home is honored to serve the Griffin family.
A Funeral Service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at 3:00pm at Amity Baptist Church in Woodland. There will also be a visitation on Sunday from 1:00pm until service time at the church. Bro. Lee Dillard and Bro. Scott Griffin will be officiating, with interment to follow at Amity Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Edward Inman, Bit Shankle, Kenneth Scott, Tate Scott, Jordan Inman, and Blake Shankle.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Free as well as his friends at the Sparta Opry.
He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Geraldine Jennings Griffin; daughters, Tammy Inman and her husband Edward of Vardaman, and Carla Shankle and her husband Bit of Houston; grandchildren, Kenneth (Erica) Scott, Jordan (Ashley) Inman, Brooke Shankle, and Blake (Crystal) Shankle; and great-grandchildren, Tate Scott, Kyleigh Scott, Laden Scott, and Mallie Shankle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge and Margaret Griffin; brothers, Troy Griffin, Travis Griffin, and Ray Griffin; and grandchild, Christopher Thomas Scott.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Amity Baptist Church Building Fund or the Amity Cemetery Fund.
