Gerald Allan Harkness, affectionately known as Jerry, passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2024, at his home in Hiawatha, Kansas, surrounded by his devoted caregivers Lisa, Tina, and his loving family.
Gerald was born on May 21st, 1964, in Wamego, Kansas, Jerry was the cherished son of Keith and Mary Virginia (Gin) Harkness. Jerry attended school at Wamego and Pawnee City School, he dropped out to take care of hi parents and later obtained his GED.
Jerry married the love of his life, Lynne Steinmentz, and together they shared twenty beautiful years. Although their paths diverged, resulting in divorce, their bond remained strong, and they continued to support each other in life's journey. He pursued his education at Peru State College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business and Economic Development in 1994.
Jerry embarked on a career journey, initially as a store manager and troubleshooter for 7-Eleven in Fort Worth, Texas, later transitioning to Wolf Camera in Dallas, Texas. Unfortunately, an accident altered his path, rendering him permanently disabled.
In 2010, Jerry found solace and purpose in joining the Catholic Church, eventually dedicating himself to assisting the elderly and disabled at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Worth, Texas. His commitment and compassion led him to become the 3rd Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus organization. Jerry was the eldest of seven siblings and held a special bond with each of them. Jerry and Lynne cherished their time together, especially in the company of their nieces and nephews. Animals held a special place in Jerry's heart, and he showered them with love and care, treating them as his own children. Known for his kindness and generosity, Jerry selflessly gave his time and love to countless individuals throughout his lifetime.
Jerry is survived by his three brothers, Jeff (Andrea) Harkness of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Jon Harkness of Manhattan, Kansas, Jay Harkness of Nebraska, his three sisters, Amy Harkness of Fairview, Kansas, Tammie (Monty) Leishing of Baileyville, Kansas, Misty (JR) Shepherd of Texas, along with eighteen nieces and nephews, and Twelve great-nieces and nephews.
