Jerry was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA where he graduated from South High School. He resided in Blackridge, PA with his devoted spouse, Cecelia Greber. He was the honored stepfather of James Racan, and the doting pet-dad to Sidney the Parrot and his late canine companions, Cajun and Thor.
Jerry is also survived by his beloved siblings, Linda M. Hays of Pittsburgh, PA; Charles P. "Chuck" (Michele) Hays of Rineyville, KY; Lorrie (Edward) Hildebrand of Belle Vernon, PA; and Lisa F. (Anthony) Dilla of Baldwin, PA. Jerry was also the adoring uncle of numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and oh-so-many cousins and friends who cherished him. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth A. and Gerald E. Hays, Sr., and his brother, Ronald J. (survived by Mary Louise) Hays.
Jerry's gifts to the universe were the depth of his creativity, compassion, generosity, optimistic outlook, and his wicked sense of humor. We will miss the devilish sparkle of his blue eyes, wide grin and the outstretched arms ready to enclose for that big bear hug; the craft beers waiting chilled alongside the holiday spreads; and the elaborately decorated house so reminiscent of our late parents' home. Mostly, however, we will miss the love that Jerry shared so abundantly with all. Rest in peace now, dearest man, where pain is no more and your soul is light! Know that you will be missed enormously, but until we meet again, Godspeed and YeeeHawww! You were and ARE so loved, Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Jerry's legacy of light, compassion and stewardship by sharing your kindness and love with each other, and with his family, friends, loved ones, and his community. Although there will be no visitation, a Celebration of Life is planned for January 1, 2025 at the Blackridge Civic Association, 1200 Beulah Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15235 from 12 Noon - 4 PM.
