Gerald "Jerry" D Hearn
Born November 28, 1931
Died November 27, 2025 at the age of 93
Gerald enlisted in the US Navy in 1953. He became a barber while serving on the USS Sperry submarine tender. He was very proud to have been able to visit different parts of the world through his enlistment in the Navy.
In 1956 he met and married Nancy Carol Land while finishing up in the Navy in California. Upon his discharge they moved to Dallas, TX for work, shortly thereafter moving to Mesquite, where they raised 3 children together. During this time he began going by "Jerry", eventually opening Jerry's Barber Shop in downtown Dallas. He worked hard to build his customer base, entertaining them with jokes for 63 years.
In his retirement years, Jerry became known as the "scrubbie guy". He loved selling some and giving away many.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Carol Land and his son Michael Wayne Hearn, his parents Henry and Vira Hearn, sister Inez and three brothers, Euil, Wayne and Sterling.
He leaves behind two daughters, Sherrie Ray and Nita Bartow, a son-in-law Steve Ray, 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Graveside service for family and close friends will be at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, TX in March 2026. (Date and time to be determined later).
Helping others was important to him. In lieu of flowers, please help someone in need in Jerry's name.
