Gerald D. "Jerry" Howey, age 81, of Barton, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on January 19, 2026. Born on December 14, 1944, in Sayre, Pennsylvania to Archie and Alice (Woodruff) Howey, Jerry grew up in a close-knit community that shaped the man he would become.

Jerry, a proud graduate of Tioga Central High School, class of 1962, was known for his athletic prowess, playing both football and basketball for the Tigers. It was during these formative years that he deepened his bond with his childhood friend, Jacqueline who would later become his wife and lifelong companion. The high school sweethearts married on August 27, 1966, and were looking forward to celebrating their 60th anniversary this coming August.

Jerry's work ethic was admirable; he dedicated nearly 37 years of service to Morse Chain in Ithaca, where he was respected by his colleagues for his commitment and reliability. His work was an important part of his life, but it was his family that truly captured his heart.

A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jerry's presence was a source of strength and joy to his family. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Jacqueline L. Howey, his devoted sons, Jondale (Dawn) Howey and Jonpaul Howey (Michelle Morgan), and his adored grandchildren, Derek Peters, Justice Howey (Nicole Eno), Trey Howey (Crystal Derby), Madi Howey (Nick Klossner), and Reese Howey. His legacy continues with his two great-grandchildren, Blake and Layne Klossner. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Linda Pyhtila, sister-in-law, Jackie Howey, and several nieces, nephews, and their families. His brother, Donald "Gene" Howey, a sister, Phyllis Kelsey,  brother-in-law Roger Pyhtila; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joette "Jodi" and Leonard Kirkpatrick predeceased him, along with his parents.

Jerry's interests and hobbies were varied and full of life. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his boys and later his grandchildren at their football, basketball, volleyball and soccer games, demonstrating his unwavering support and pride. His love for the thrill of racing led him to frequent Shangri-La Racetrack, the Chemung track, and Skyline Drive. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry found solace in hunting and being surrounded by nature, which provided him with a serene escape.

Those who knew Jerry would describe him as loving, adventurous, and kind. His strong personality was balanced with a tender heart, and his sense of humor brought laughter to any gathering. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Jerry's love and the cherished memories he created with his family and friends will forever remain a part of them.

Abiding with his wishes, there will be no services. Memories and condolences may be shared in his guestbook at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com Jerry's life was one of devotion, adventure, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on through the lives he touched.
