Gerald R. Nelson, known affectionately as Jerry to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Franklin, WI, at the age of 86. Born on November 16, 1938, in Milwaukee, WI, Jerry led a life marked by devotion to his family and a love of sports and humor.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy (nee Carstens) Nelson, who was his lifelong companion and best friend. He was a cherished brother to Bernice (Dom) Verive. A loving father, he instilled values of hard work and kindness in his children, Michael (Lori) Josephson, David (Tina) Josephson, and Laura (Kurt) Nowak. His joy was multiplied with the arrival of each of his grandchildren, Michael Josephson, Madalyn Josephson, Dante Josephson, Chase Josephson, Khloe Nowak, and Ava Nowak, who will remember him as a playful and gentle grandfather. Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy (Sus) Esposito, Shirley (William) Maass, Charlene (Hugo) Mosquera, and his brothers, Eugene Nelson and Donald (Yvonne) Nelson. His memory will also be treasured by his numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were touched by his kind and friendly nature.
Jerry dedicated many years of service as an Electronic Technician with the United States Postal Service (USPS), where his expertise and reliability were greatly valued by his colleagues. Jerry was known for his loving spirit and readiness to lend a helping hand.
An avid sports enthusiast, Jerry spent many happy years bowling in the 5-star classic league, his competitive spirit and camaraderie making him a favorite among his teammates. His love for golf, tennis, and ping pong kept him active and engaged, always looking forward to the next game.
Jerry's sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities. He had an uncanny ability to light up a room with his jokes and puns, and his laughter was infectious. His storytelling would often end in a room full of smiling faces, a testament to his wit and charm.
Above all, Jerry will be remembered for the love he had for his family. He was a constant presence at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
