Gerda Mather Obituary

Gerda Mather, longtime Muskego resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24, 2025 at the age of 82.

Born Gerda Rosalinde Schug on December 31, 1942 to Karl and Anna Schug in Ebelsbach, Germany, where she lived throughout her childhood. She apprenticed as a beautician before moving to the United States with her husband, whom she met while he was stationed in Germany with the US Army.

Gerda dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a meticulous homemaker and devoted mother to her three sons. She enjoyed traveling back “home” to Germany, cooking German Rouladen for her family and in her later years, loved spending many hours walking outdoors.

She leaves behind her sons, Scott (Christine) Mather, Steve (Ann) Mather, and Jeff (Shannon) Mather.

Loving Oma to Michael (Jenny Pusch) Mather, Nicholas (Andrea) Mather, Benjamin (Meghan) Mather, Lauren Mather, Joshua Mather and Jon Mather.

Excitedly surrounded by joy from her great-grandchildren Madeline, Jack, James, John, Peter, Sam and George…with one more coming soon.

Further survived by her sisters, Elisabeth (Raffaele) Piacquadio, of Ebelsbach, and Hilde Hornung (the late Friedrich) , of Eltmann, many additional family members in Germany, and former husband, Jim Mather.

Preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Anna, and siblings, Hans, Lydia, Theresia, Werner and Edgar, along with her beloved brother-in-law, Dietmar.

Special thanks to her lifelong friend, Helga Mietdke, and her caring family at Azura Memory Care, who together made her final years happy and meaningful. We are forever grateful to you.

Laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin. Private family services will be held.

God looked around his garden and He found an empty place.

He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.

Gods garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering;

He knew that you were in pain,

He knew that you would never get well on earth again.

He saw that the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered

"Peace be thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
